CELEBRATING ALL CURRY OCCASIONS

History

A LOOK BACK IN TIME SHOWCASING JUST HOW FAR WE'VE COME

The very first National Curry Week took place in October 1998 and was founded by the late Peter Grove. Peter was a prominent journalist who had fallen in love with curry. His vision was to drive awareness and appreciation of the burgeoning Indian restaurant industry, whilst also raising funds for charity.

To this day National Curry Week honours this vision with its three core objectives:

HONOUR THE NATION’S FAVOURITE CUISINE

• CELEBRATE AND SUPPORT THE INDIAN RESTAURANT INDUSTRY

• RAISE MONEY FOR POVERTY FOCUSSED CHARITIES

This year will be the 27th National Curry Week and we’re committed to making it bigger and better than ever!

National Curry Week began in 1998

The last twenty years have been a fantastic ride and we’ve had lots of fun from breaking world records to touring the nation with free curry served from a double decker bus!

Double Decker Bus Tour

A bespoke double-decker bus toured the UK to serve up free curry made by famous chefs such as Cyrus Todiwala to foodie fans nationwide.

The Poppadum Dress

We teamed up with renowned fashion designer, Lisa Myers, and challenged her to create the world’s first dress made entirely from poppadums.

Poppadum Tower World Record

We officially broke the world record for the tallest stack of poppadums, with our crispy tower reaching a mighty and mouth-watering height of 1.72m!

Kate Ovens Challenge

We challenged YouTube sensation, Kate Ovens to defeat the chilli pickle restaurant's gigantic pork knuckle vindaloo in under 15 minutes.

60 Curries In 60 Minutes

On a mission to whip up a whopping 60 curries in just 60 minutes, Dipna Anand shows us how to rustle up some delicious curries at lightning speed.

400 Curries in 100 Minutes

Tommy Sandhu challenged 5 highly regarded chefs from different restaurants to cook 400 curries in just 100 minutes with all the proceeds plus £1000 going to charity.
